Career

The customs official is an official with special status, who holds special grades, is entitled to remuneration, material insurance and social protection.

The personnel of the customs bodies is mainly young, with modern visions and a desire for continuous professional development, who carry out their professional activity in the interest and support of the citizen, community and state institutions, based exclusively on law and with a view of applying thereof.

The competition to fill a vacant or a temporarily vacant position of customs official is based on the principles of open competition, transparency, competence and professional merit, as well as the principle of equal access to the positions of customs official for all citizens.

Information on vacancies and the conditions for filling them is published. Advertising is ensured through media, by placing the information on the official website of the Customs Service and by displaying it on the information board at the headquarters of the Customs Service.

The new customs official is subject to a probation period of 6 months; its purpose is to assess the knowledge, skills and professional aptitudes of the person, to practically train, and to familiarize the new customs official with the specifics and requirements of the position. The activity of the new customs official is carried out under the guidance of a mentor, who is an experienced customs official in the subdivision in which the new customs official is employed.

At the end of the probation period, the new staff member is either:

a) confirmed to the position of customs official and awarded a special grade – if their professional activity is assessed at least as “satisfactory”; 

b) dismissed – if their professional activity is deemed “unsatisfactory”.

The probation period does not apply to persons appointed to a commanding position, to persons who previously held positions of public dignity, to persons who served as civil servants or to those who have previously held a public office with special status in other public authorities.

At the end of the probation period, after being confirmed, the customs official takes, within 10 days, the oath of allegiance: "I solemnly swear to respect the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, fundamental human rights and freedoms, to defend the sovereignty, economic security, independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, to apply objectively and impartially the laws of the country, to dutifully fulfil my obligations in connection with the exercise of my position and to respect the Code of Ethics and Conduct of Customs Officials. If I break this oath, I am ready to bear full responsibility provided by law."
